Earlier this month, Melissa blogged about a new film titled Sparkle that stars Whitney Houston and Jordin Sparks. Today we get to check out a fantastic new promo photo of the pair in the film. As I understand it, Sparkle is a film loosely based on the life story of The Supremes where we follow the meteoric rise of the protagonist character Sparkle (played by Sparks). Whitney plays the not-so-supportive mother who, I’m assuming, eventually sees the err of her ways. Click below to check out this new photo of Whitney and Jordin in Sparkle.

How Whitney Houston and Jordin Sparks will look like as mother and daughter in “Sparkle” has been unveiled in a first look image from the film. The freshly released photo gives a look at Houston as she holds Sparks’ arms while standing close to the “American Idol” alum. Dressing up in gorgeous dresses, Houston and Sparks are seen standing together in what seems to be a dressing room. The “I Will Always Love You” veteran diva is seen donning a glossy gray dress that she paired with a bejeweled necklace, while the “No Air” hitmaker is seen rocking a daring low-cut red gown that she combined with hoop earrings. In the upcoming drama, Houston plays a “not-so encouraging mother” of the titular character, who is portrayed by Sparks. The film is inspired by the story of The Supremes. It follows the journey of the three Williams sisters, who begin singing in Harlem in the late 1950 before finding fame as a girl group. Their sudden rise, however, unravels their personal lives. “Sparkle” is a remake of the 1976 music-themed film of the same title. The movie will mark Sparks’ first acting stint and Houston’s first movie since 1996′s “The Preacher’s Wife”. They will be joined by Mike Epps, Cee-Lo, Omari Hardwick, Tika Sumpter, Derek Luke and Carmen Ejogo.
It has been a LONG time since Whitney has made a movie so I’m really hoping Sparkle does well. I’ve been doing everything I can to try and not pay attention to (and believe) the reports of Whitney‘s alleged financial crisis. If this movie is a hit, then Whitney can get her career back on track! We’ll have to wait until August to see Sparkle in theaters but … I think it’ll be worth the wait. I heart Whitney Houston so much, I just want her to be happy and successful again.
