Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s empire looks poised to expand (as if it wasn’t big enough already), with the appointment of FranCois Kress to head up their couture label, The Row. Kress comes with some serious credibility and a killer resume – before joining the Olsen empire, he was Prada’s US president and CEO and before that at Bulgari Corporation and LVMH. Mary-Kate and Ashley say they are looking to expand the brand and created the new role for Kress as a means to do so. Read on for more of the deets…

Mary-kate said “He quickly became the obvious choice for us and for the brand, having experience in multiple categories which we feel is essential for growth of The Row” and Ashley added “His experience and sensibility will add great value to The Row in its next phase of development.”
They’ve certainly come a long way since their Michelle Tanner days in Full House. They may not be as adorable, but these girls know how to get it done. The Row, named after the famous Savile Row of London, was launched by the Olsen twins in 2007. It emerged as a solution the the twins’ problem of not being able to find the perfect t-shirt. (I wish I had the talent to start a label for every wardrobe issue I have!)
From there, they went from strength to strength. The Olsens became pioneers of boho-chic, created a line for Walmart, created a beauty line called “Mary-Kate and Ashley: Real fashion for real girl”, and were the faces of Badgley Mischka in 2006 . And it’s paying off. They’ve been in the Forbes ‘Celebrity 100 list since 2002, ranking them as the 11th richest women in entertainment, worth a cool $100 Million.
I have to admit I find it a bit baffling that a guy that worked for Prada, Bulgari and LVMH is now moving over to the Olsens new brand… hmmm…but I do have respect for Mary-Kate and Ashley. They have their tough moments (!), as you would expect from child stars, but they are tough, savvy and smart, and this business move looks set to really take them to even higher places.
