We love Lea Michele and were a little disappointed when she didn’t score the highly desirable role of Eponine in the film adaptation of Les Miserables. (It did go to a great musical actress though, Samantha Barks instead of the rumored Taylor Swift.) News broke today though that Lea may have nabbed an equally coveted role in the film adaptation of the brilliant Spring Awakening. Are you familiar with the original German play? Think abortion, rape, suicide, masturbation and even S&M!!

It is so exciting that there is going to be a film adaptation done of this wonderful play. It was originally a German play from 1891 focusing on a group of teenagers dealing with puberty and some uncomfortable issues, but interesting and important nonetheless. The play was then turned into a Broadway show and won 8 Tony Awards.
The film’s director had the following scoop to share…
“It’s very similar to the [stage] production…We’re probably going to shoot it in Eastern Europe and it’s a very true adaptation of what it is with a little Baz Luhrman thrown in… I love Lea; we’ve talked about it…when I first got turned onto the show she was in it so it’s her voice that echoes in my heart. I really think she’s wonderful and we’ll see where it takes us.”
I am very excited that this play is being turned into a film because I think it will be amazing on the silver screen. It sounds like it might be sticking somewhat to the original version but playing with it a little… in the style of Baz Luhrman. Super exciting! I also think Lea would be the perfect choice for the role, especially given that she played the role in the Broadway version. If you haven’t heard of the play, Spring Awakening, you are in for a real treat. I’ve seen the play done a few different times and it really lends itself to some incredible acting, the tackling of relevant and universal topics and provides lots of meaty issues to debate.
What do you think, do you want to see Lea Michele in the Spring Awakening film?
