‘Snow’ Bowl

So … the Super Bowl … pretty much the only thing that almost everyone in the world watched yesterday, right? Well … yes, it’s true that I, too, watched the big game but primarily in anticipation of Madonna‘s Super Bowl halftime show and partly to see the commercials. I was wowed by Maddy, I was mehed by the commercials … I honestly didn’t even pay any attention to the game at all. I did pay attention to the film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs … because I spent the hours before the big game watching the world’s first animated feature film.

Because I’m reading the life story of Walt Disney, I’ve been really anxious to rewatch the classic Disney film Snow White. It’s really cool to read about how the film was made (in a harried, sometimes complicated way) and then watch the final product. I had forgotten how much of the story is based solely on Snow White‘s friendship with the Dwarfs. I guess in my mind (and I’m guessing everyone else’s), the story of Snow White is supposed to be about her conflict with the Evil Queen and her romance with her Prince. I think it was very smart of Disney to take the classic Brothers Grimm fairytale and make it his own. I know that Snow White looks quaint now but back in 1937, when it was first released, I’m sure it was a revolution. Snow White is the first feature-length animated film … with sound and color, I can’t even begin to imagine what kind of smash sensation the film was at the time. We take for granted the amazing animated films we enjoy now … I think it’s a good idea to look back and pay homage to the birth of animated film. I still have a lot of reading to go to get thru Disney‘s whole life story but I’m also looking forward to rewatching his brilliant classic animated films. I’m planning to watch the Disney classics in chronological order … so next up … Pinocchio.

I’ve got no plans for today … but David and I have our big 6 year anniversary trip coming up so, I’m hopefully going to get a jump start on trip preparations. Hopefully this will be a nice and very quiet week. Happy Monday!
